Help protect our Missouri waters! Tell the DNR to strengthen CAFO permitting

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released the final drafts of its proposed Operating General Permits for the state's 500+ concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO)s. Our Chapter has collaboratively worked with the DNR and our partners to reach where they are today. However, now we need your voice.

Help protect our Missouri waters! Tell the DNR to strengthen permitting by:

  • Making CAFOs accountable for their waste by requiring transparent annual records of how much animal waste is disposed of and in which HUC 12 watershed;
  • Requiring all Class 1A CAFOs to apply for site-specific individual operating permits. General Permits are not appropriate for the state's largest CAFO polluters;
  • Requiring CAFOs that build industrial truck wash facilities to apply for site-specific operating permits. General Permits are not appropriate for potential biohazards; and
  • Creating a pharmaceutical monitoring program for groundwater surrounding CAFOs.

Please act today by emailing your comments to DNR at cafo@dnr.mo.gov and by sharing this urgent action alert widely!

You can make a difference not only for Missouri's waterways, but for the people who enjoy them!
