Methodology

In order to grade Missouri’s legislators, we selected a handful of significant bills (described below). Depending on how each representative voted on the floor and in committee on each bill, they would receive points. Representatives could also receive points for their sponsorship of bills; sponsorship points were considered ‘bonus points’, and could push representatives to a grade above 100%.

Once the floor, committee, and sponsorship points were tabulated, we divided their point-total by the most points that could be received with floor and committee points, giving a representative their score.

Simply put: (Floor Vote Points + Committee Vote Points + Sponsorship Bonus) ÷ (Possible Floor Vote Points + Possible Committee Vote Points)

Point values:

Floor Votes: 1

Committee Votes: 0.5

Sponsorship/Bonus: 0.5

Grades:

Champions: Over 100%, goes above and beyond in accordance with our principles

A: 90% - 100%, near-perfect voting to protect our planet

B: 80% - 90%, above average voting record

C: 70% - 80%, satisfactory voting record

D: 60% - 70%, unsatisfactory voting record

F: 60% or less, ‘failing grade’
