Your contributions help provide the resources needed to protect Ohio’s air and water, preserve wild places, advance clean energy, address climate change, and work alongside communities to build a healthier, safer, more equitable, and resilient future. In this edition, we are sharing our Ohio Chapter Ways to Give Guide, along with an explanation of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) giving to help you better understand the options available for supporting our work. We are also highlighting an important opportunity to help shape the Chapter’s future through Executive Committee service. The application deadline has been extended, providing additional time for interested Members to step forward and be considered for two open seats beginning in January 2027. Both organizations share a commitment to protecting our environment and advancing the work of Sierra Club, but they have different tax designations and the funds they receive can be used in different ways. Giving to Sierra Club — 501(c)(4)Sierra Club is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization. Gifts made to Sierra Club support the organization’s broad advocacy work, including citizen-based advocacy and lobbying. Contributions to Sierra Club aren’t tax-deductible.For Sierra Club Ohio, c(4) support is especially valuable because it provides resources for the advocacy and public-policy work that is an important part of advancing our mission. |
Giving to Sierra Club Foundation — 501(c)(3)Sierra Club Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Gifts to the Foundation are generally tax-deductible and support charitable organizations, educational, scientific, and other work permitted under 501(c)(3) rules.
