If you’ve ever hiked through the quiet trails of Hocking Hills, watched the sunset over Lake Erie, or simply spent an afternoon in your neighborhood park, you already know how special Ohio’s natural spaces are.
It’s easy to look at big environmental headlines and feel a little helpless. We get it—scrolling through climate news can feel exhausting. But here’s something we’ve learned over decades of organizing across Ohio: the antidote to feeling helpless is getting connected.
When neighbors come together to protect the places they love, real change happens. And whether you have two hours a month or two hours a week, there’s a seat at the table for you.
That’s why we’re inviting you to the Sierra Club Ohio Volunteer Open House!
What Is the Volunteer Open House?
Think of this as a relaxed, informal welcome night. No pressure, no rigid commitments, and no experience required—just an open invitation to meet fellow Ohioans who care about clean water, fresh air, and vibrant communities.
Whether you’re a college student looking to build grassroots organizing skills, a retiree with time to lend to local conservation, an outdoor lover who wants to co-lead weekend hikes, or someone who just wants to learn more about environmental policy in our state, you belong here.
What We’ll Cover:
Our Current Ohio Priorities: Get a quick, clear look at what we’re tackling right now—from safeguarding Lake Erie and local watersheds to defending public lands like the Wayne National Forest and advocating for clean energy and expanded transit options.
Ways to Get Involved That Fit Your Life: We know life is busy. We’ll break down different volunteer tracks so you can find something that matches your schedule, interest, and skills:
Community & Outings: Help host local cleanups, trail walks, and nature events.
Campus Outreach: Connect with student groups and younger activists.
Policy & Legislative Advocacy: Help write letters, speak with local leaders, and track environmental legislation.
Digital & Storytelling: Create social posts, take event photos, or write stories for our chapter update.
Open Q&A & Conversation: Meet our local group leaders, ask questions, and chat with current volunteers about what it’s actually like to get involved.
