Solar Inclusion Project (SIP)

SIP TeamIn the summer of 2016, the Marys Peak Group initiated the collaborative Solar Inclusion Project (SIP). This project provides a collaborative process for a developer, a financier, a solar installer and a benefactor to provide solar power for low-income homeowners. The first two home systems will be installed in Corvallis in December 2016. Other collaborators include Benton Habitat for Humanity, Seeds for the Sol, and Abundant Solar. The MPG is the first benefactor to kick off the SIP program and will help negotiations with other benefactors for future low income housing. Pictured at left are representatives of the Marys Peak Group, Oregon Chapter Sierra Club, Benton Habitat for Humanity, Oregon Habitat for Humanity, Seeds for the Sol, Abundant Solar and the recipient homeowners. Read more about this program on the Oregon Sierra Club blog.

Marys Peak Group Goes Native

Since 2007, the Marys Peak Group has been planting native trees and shrubs to help revive our local ecosystem and to counter the negative impacts our society’s destructive land-use practices, pollution production and widespread distribution of non-native species. From 2007-2009, the MPG focused on planting native trees along Corvallis streets to mitigate urban pollution and summer heat. In 2010, we partnered with the Corvallis School District and the Corvallis Oddfellows Lodge to plant native arboretums on schoolyards, for both ecological and educational purposes. To date, we have planned, funded, installed and maintained six schoolyard native arboretums at Crescent Valley High School, Cheldelin Middle School, Corvallis Waldorf School, Linus Pauling Middle School, Garfield Elementary School and Jaguar Elementary School. Check for further information at our native arboretum page!
