We’ve Endorsed A Strong Leader For State Senate!

The Sierra Club is proud to endorse George Scott, Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania Senate District 15, in the General Election on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.

Running for office is a continuation of George's lifetime of service. He will draw on his own leadership and service experience to influence fellow lawmakers to pursue a pro-environment legislative agenda. Twenty years as a military officer and 10 years in the ministry have given George a unique perspective on the value of leadership. He has learned that people can accomplish far-reaching goals if they work together.

George believes that climate change is one of the most pressing threats to our country. He supports initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in all forms. While the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a viable solution, George also supports broader and less complex alternatives, such as a carbon fee and dividend program.

He recognizes the Susquehanna River as a cherished environmental landmark in his district, and how industrial wastewater, runoff, and poor management have threatened the river both as a habitat for aquatic life and for human use. The communities that share the Susquehanna River have a responsibility to keep it clean for themselves and for each other. If elected, George will oppose efforts to undermine the authority of the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and will work to ensure adequate oversight by our state government.

Candidate George Scott

George will also fight to end partisan gerrymandering, which will empower low-income individuals and people of color to better advocate for their communities in state government. Further, he wants to reduce the effects that toxic chemicals and pollution have on our communities.

Given the federal administration’s continued threats to our environment, electing environmental advocates like George is more important than ever.

We strongly encourage all Sierra Club members, as well as their friends, neighbors and relatives to support his campaign with your time, talents and money. The only way we can get good candidates elected is to dedicate some of our time and hard work to supporting their efforts.
