Conservation

The Conservation and Public Lands  Team works to address environmental/conservation issues within the chapter's region. Because so much of our region’s land is public land, managed on our behalf by national land management agencies and the Department of Defense, the majority of our conservation issues arise on these public lands.

Nevada Rail Coalition

The Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club is a founding member of the Nevada Rail Coalition, a citizen-based initiative that brings together organizations, groups and individuals, including unions, environmental organizations, passenger and freight rail advocacy associations, social justice organizations, and neighborhood and community associations for the purpose of building an expanded and more robust rail system – freight and passenger – in the Silver State.

Political

The Toiyabe Chapter's nonpartisan Political Committee preserves the environment through grassroots, bipartisan political action; to elect environmentally supportive candidates; and to influence the behavior of public officials.

Legislative

The purpose of the Toiyabe Chapter Legislative Committee is to advance the Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter’s environmental goals by securing legislative victories at the biennial Nevada Legislature and at city councils and county commissions – wherever elected officials have the power to enact the policies we need to protect our air, water, lands, wildlife, and communities.

Healthy Homes

Our healthy homes team works to ensure every family has access to a home that protects our health, as well as the health of our planet in the face of climate change. Gas appliances in homes are a major factor in causing an unhealthy environment in the home and contribute 14% of greenhouse emissions in Nevada. Moving away from gas to electric appliances is critical to reducing indoor air pollution and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our campaign and the healthy homes team are working on this problem and brainstorming local solutions.

Zero Waste

The mission of the chapter’s Zero Waste team  is to educate, advocate, and campaign in across our region to reduce waste, transforming the way local consumers, producers, and retailers approach the concept of waste in order to improve our quality of life, save energy, and show respect for the world’s resources.

PAC

Because the Sierra Club, under federal law, may not make political contributions from its corporate account (Sierra Club funds), it has established Political Action Committees (PACs) to administer its segregated funds. The Sierra Club Nevada PAC is a nonpartisan, state PAC administered by the chapter political committee to support state and local candidates. It may not engage in ANY federal election campaign activities.
