Jacky Rosen supports public lands and wildlife

Contrary to Dean Heller’s despicable press release on May 21, 2018, Jacky Rosen acted responsibly, appropriately, and for the benefit of all Nevadans by voting against the Bishop amendment in the 1052 page National Defense Authorization Act (H.R.5515). The Bishop amendment, added during the NDAA markup by Rob Bishop (R-Utah), would bar the Fish and Wildlife Service from listing the greater sage grouse under the Endangered Species Act for 10 years even though the Department of Defense specifically said this was not needed. This is clearly another attack on sage grouse habitat by Republicans who want to give the oil and gas and mining industries what they’ve long sought, the flexibility to get into these areas and to profit from all our public lands. The Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club applauds Jacky Rosen for her vote against the unnecessary amendment.  However, in the end, when the amendment passed anyway, she voted in favor of the annual NDAA, something not noted in Heller’s press release. Shame on Heller for mischaracterizing the vote by Jacky Rosen. Contrary to Heller’s press release, Jacky Rosen was protecting Nevadan’s access to their public lands – something that Heller would like to sell to the highest bidder – and helping job creation in rural communities through increased tourism by her no vote on the Bishop amendment.
