Southern Nevada Volunteer Opportunities

Sierra Club’s Southern Nevada Group (SNG) is hoping to fill the following volunteer leadership positions. Please see their descriptions below. If interested contact Chair Vinny Spotleson SNG-Chair@sierraclub.org or call 702-285-6588.

Executive Committee Member
SNG currently has one vacancy on our Executive Committee (ExCom), which is an all-volunteer board that manages the group. ExCom members are expected to attend 10 monthly meetings a year, and perform the management and oversight of Sierra Club’s various committees, budgets, and legal matters related to the environment. We provide ongoing training sessions to help you in the role of an ExCom member. If you are interested in joining the ExCom, please send a paragraph with a statement explaining your interest to SNG-Chair@sierraclub.org.

Outings Chair and Outings Leaders
With COVID on decline and the growing scientific research on the safety of outdoor gatherings, Sierra Club is looking to recruit new Outings Leaders and an Outings Committee chair. Sierra Club provides training and pays for First Aid and CPR certification. Once those steps are completed, Outings Leaders are responsible for organizing and managing hikes with other Sierra Club members and the public. The benefits of hiking with Sierra Club are our free training, support, insurance, and the strong wildlife protection ethics shared by Sierra Club and our members.

Treasurer
SNG is currently trying to fill the position of volunteer treasurer for our group. The Treasurer helps the Executive Committee keep accurate records to help manage our annual budget, which exceeds more than $10,000. This role oversees the various bank accounts, approves and issues reimbursements, and reports to the Executive Committee 10 months a year about the financial health of the Southern Nevada Group.
