Are you interested in outings in the Sierras? Do you believe all youth should be able to access and safely enjoy the wilderness and create a lifelong passion for the environment? Do you want to be a part of a life-altering program for young people with great benefits to our community and to you as an adult in our world?

Reno Inspiring Connections Outdoors (Reno ICO) is our local Sierra Club group that provides outdoor adventures and experiences to youth and young adults in Reno and Northern Nevada. We promote individual growth and facilitate transformative experiences through snowshoeing, backpacking, hiking, rafting and other activities, focusing on environmental and outdoor skills education and leadership development. We provide equitable access to the natural world so that all young people in our community appreciate and care about our natural environment.

We are building our all-volunteer organization and planning for our first trips this coming fall. Up to 25 interested volunteers and potential trip leaders can take part in ICO’s Outdoor Leadership Training over the weekend of September 23-25 at the beautiful Sierra Club Clair Tappan Lodge. This is the same training needed for leading Sierra Club Outings Trips – But with a twist: It will be focused on creating fun, safe, and engaging outdoors trips for young people and we will have a great time with kindred spirits while we gain knowledge and experience. Yes, we would love to have a few experienced backpackers, hikers, and snowshoers, but we also welcome beginners - No experience necessary*!

If you are interested in joining us or just want to hear more, please contact Tracey Pomeroy, ICO Reno Volunteer Coordinator at pomerot@gmail.com or 415-518-7282.

* All ICO Volunteers must be Sierra Club members, pass a background check, get certified in first aid, and agree to all Sierra Club and Reno ICO policies and terms.
