Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter
The Toiyabe Chapter, which covers all of Nevada and the Range of Light area of California has several committees and administrative actions that volunteers and activists can participate.
Chapter Secretary for the Executive Committee (ExCom)
Our Toiyabe Chapter is looking for a volunteer Secretary for the Executive Committee (ExCom). The ExCom meets once a month (currently on the last Thursday at 6:00 p.m.). It is a great way to be involved, and you will learn so much about the Chapter organization, while working with our elected volunteer leaders and staff. Responsibilities:
- Minutes:
- Attend monthly Chapter ExCom meetings and take the minutes. The meeting can be recorded and sent to the secretary to transcribe if you can’t attend all the meetings.
- The secretary maintains the records of the chapter and can have a close working relationship with the Chair.
Volunteer Engagement Team Members Needed
The Volunteer Engagement Team works with chapter/group leadership to develop and implement programs for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and placement on teams that support various chapter activities, programs and office functions. Meeting with and helping new volunteers is the perfect way to get to know so many of our members and leaders. Join the team!
Join our Political Committee
Currently, our Political Committee has started meeting via zoom, organizing the research needed to endorse and select which candidates Sierra Club will endorse in elections. Then we help get them elected. Join in - Campaigns are fun! They’re a great way to meet new people, take on new challenges, and learn new skills. After months of advocating for your electeds, you will have made connections and built relationships that help with creating and passing laws that match our values and priorities. It’s a blast!
Things you can do from home (you don’t have to do all of them!):
- attend Political Committee meetings
- research candidates (we have the tools needed)
- phone bank Sierra Club members
- Social Media: create social media plans to promote our endorsed candidates
- plan a postcard party or write postcards
- create databases
- help plan our Fund-raising events: contact invitees and candidates

- Canvas for our priority candidates
- Help plan and set up the venue for our Fund-raising events
