Clayton County MARTA Expansion a Victory for Transit, People and Connected Communities

The Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club applauded as Clayton County citizens voted overwhelming to join MARTA by at least 74 percent, marking what will be the first jurisdictional expansion of the transit system since its inception more than 40 years ago. The vote approved a 1% sales tax that will generate at least $45 million annually for 33 years, making this the largest new funding commitment to transportation in the Metro Atlanta region since MARTA was first approved in 1971.
