Kellar Branch Line Trail Progress!

January 2014

Kellar Branch, Peoria Heights
The Rock Island Greenway (Kellar Branch Line) south of Prospect in Peoria Heights

After so many years of delay it is really wonderful to see the Peoria Park District progress with the conversion of the Kellar Branch rail line (now called the Rock Island Greenway) into a hiking-bicycling-multi-use recreational trail. Surfacing of the trail is completed from Bishop Street to near the Peoria Journal Star, where the trail exits onto Harvard Avenue to connect with the Springdale Cemetery bicycle route and connections on downtown to the riverfront trail. The trail is also surfaced from Glen Avenue north. Grading and preliminary work is completed from the Prospect Avenue section south to Bishop Street. A bridge over Knoxville Avenue is under construction to link to the northern trail sections.
