Just 20 hogs under the 2,500 number that would require a public hearing, a 2,480 hog confined animal feeding operation (CAFO) is being planned for south of Princeville on the Princeville-Jubilee Road. The application for this facility did not disclose that a natural spring and spring fed creek are only about 100 feet from the main animal building, which will be 281 feet long and 71 feet wide. See the map of the location of this planned CAFO. The closest home to this CAFO is on the National Historic Register and is significant for Peoria County. The creek from near the CAFO building is only 300 feet from the house.

The CAFO will use an estimated 10,000 gallons of water per day and intends to drill an 800 foot well, which raises area concerns about water drawdown for the same depth wells at Chippewa Estates subdivision to the west. There are about 60 other private homes in the area.

Karen Hudson, staff with the Socially Responsible Agriculture Project and leader with Illinois Citizens for Clean Air and Water, spoke at a press conference and to the Peoria County Board in mid-February regarding the proposed CAFO south of Princeville.
