Governor JB Pritzker announced that he has selected Colleen Callahan to be the new Director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Colleen Callahan and her husband live just west of Peoria. She is an excellent communicator, does her homework, works really hard, and knows rural Illinois from her life on a central Illinois family farm. She and her husband pasture raise cattle and farm but being a farmer does not make one "big agriculture."

Colleen is an advocate for sustainable agriculture and pollinator habitat. She worked for many years as an ag news person and is fact based and researches issues thoroughly. She is professional yet very personable. In her work with the U.S. Ag rural affairs in Illinois during the Obama Administration she did bring in significant funding to Illinois. We hope she will find ways to help get more funding for IDNR, which is urgently needed. Colleen Callahan has proven political credibility and is not new to work in a challenging political situation. She is not beholden to any particular entity under the IDNR umbrella, which is what has so often been the situation with past IDNR directors. Colleen is truly a person interested in public service.
