Keystone XL Pipeline March
NO Keystone XL pipeline marchers in Lincoln Nebraska on August 6th
HOI Members at Rally in Lincoln, Nebraska

In solidarity with Native American tribes, ranchers, residents, environmentalists from across the country and others, several HOI volunteers stood in witness outside the state Capitol Building to hear speakers and then later to march for about an hour through downtown Lincoln Nebraska in a major NO Keystone XL pipeline rally and march on August 6th. The event was held the day before the Nebraska Public Service Commission began hearings to review if the pipeline section crossing Nebraska is in the public interest. About 275 miles of the Keystone XL Route are up-in-the air until this commission makes a decision, which is due by November 23rd.

Ranchers and several Native American tribal leaders spoke about their shared concerns from the pipeline. Issues include the use of eminent domain to take private land and historic tribal territorial lands for the pipeline right-of-way and its large adjacent corridor, along with a long list of climate, other environmental and ethical issues. News media reported about 600 attending. The rally organizers were reported to have been expecting about 200 people to show up. HOI members traveled in a Prius and had a the car full for the trip.
