Illinois Can Lead on Climate Change Action

Wind and solarThree Ways to Support CEJA, the Clean Energy Jobs Act

Each of us here in Illinois can fight climate change by pitching in to help pass CEJA, the Clean Energy Jobs Act. The CEJA path forward will mean extensive new jobs, economic and training opportunities for clean energy work and a Just Transition from dirty energy. Just Transition is an essential provision of the Clean Energy Jobs Act. “Just Transition” means an acknowledgement that people and communities who have relied on jobs and industries based on coal or other polluting energy will need new environmentally sustainable economies. CEJA has justice provisions to provide clean energy job training focusing on disadvantaged communities with job placement and workforce Hubs to help reclaim family-supporting wage work.

With many areas reeling from the impacts of COVID, restoring local economies is key. Growing solar and wind energy, expanding energy efficiency for homes and businesses, clean-up of old coal sites, and a host of other clean energy work will help restore local tax bases and clean up our environment.

Help fight climate change by helping pass CEJA to make Illinois a leader in the clean energy economy:

  1. Phone/write/email your state Representative and Senator with your support for CEJA. Find out who your state officials are.
  2. Write a letter to your local paper about why you want a clean energy future for Illinois and why CEJA matters
  3. Join Sierra Club efforts to help get the word out about CEJA! Watch for Sierra alerts or contact your local Heart of Illinois Group for ways to help at hoi@illinois.sierraclub.org.

For more details on CEJA, read the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter CEJA fact sheets.
