Phone Your State Representative TODAY! House Vote Expected Soon.

By Joyce Blumenshine

Call now to urge your state Representative to tell them that you support a climate change bill that phases out coal with accountable benchmarks to make sure we’re reducing pollution in the short-term, not just the long-term.

You can look up your state Representative on the Illinois State Board of Elections website.

We are currently the closest we've been to passing real climate legislation. On Tuesday, the Illinois senate passed SB18, which will move Illinois to ramp up clean energy with equity and environmental justice principles, energy efficiency, provisions to increase EV’s, and planned phase outs for coal plants in 2045.

The Illinois House of Representatives is expected to be voting on this soon after Labor Day and we need to fight for accountability in the bill before it passes.

Peoria Area State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth is key.

If you live in IL House District 92, which is mid-Peoria to south of Bartonville, Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth really needs to hear from you! Contact her office to thank her for signing on as a co-sponsor for the Clean Energy Jobs Act and urge her to support a real climate bill, that phases out coal with accountable benchmarks. Her contact information is below. Please phone both offices!

Legislation passed by the state Senate on September 1st has provisions for a major ramp-up of solar energy for our state; equity for minority contractors and minority training and hiring programs; environmental justice priorities for a phased planned series of the most polluting coal and gas plant shut-downs; and many other steps to move Illinois to clean energy for new jobs and a solid future economy away from global climate change carbon-based fuels.

Illinois People’s Action President Rev. Tony Pierce spoke at an enthusiastic gathering August 18th at the State Fair. HOI Sierra and Illinois People’s action members joined in the rally to cheer state clean energy legislation across the finish line. Governor Pritzker and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton both gave comments on their support for clean energy and the new jobs and training opportunities pending legislation can provide.
