The Rock Island Greenway Bridge over Knoxville Avenue (Illinois Rt. 40) at Junction City opened in June.

For your summer delight, take a walk or bicycle the Rock Island Greenway (formerly the Kellar Branch Line) and cross the beautiful new trail bridge over Knoxville Avenue at Junction City. The decades of heartache, civic battle, and hard work for the trail have resulted in a wonderful asset for our community. Enjoy the view! Now there is an easy and safe way to cross Knoxville Avenue. Special thanks go to the excellent work of the Peoria Park District and contractors in the design and construction. You can park at Junction City, or begin your adventure at the Peoria Heights Public Library and go northwest for a summer treat on the trail.

Some finishing work is still being done on the bridge and landscaping will be completed this fall. The official Grand Opening for the bridge has been set for July 24th at 10:30 a.m.! Visit the Peoria Park District Rock Island Greenway webpage for a complete history of the bridge construction, including pictures.
