John McLean, noted area neurologist and environmental activist who raised medical community awareness of concerns regarding the expansion of the local hazardous waste landfill, passed away in Massachusetts, where he and his wife moved some years ago. John’s leadership and constant support through the years of efforts are remembered with great appreciation and respect for his many talents, good humor, kindness and unflagging work. His wife Cindy, who preceded him in death, was also involved in the opposition to the expansion. Their daughter Kim McLean, now a resident of New Hampshire, served as leader of Peoria Families Against Hazardous Waste, and was key in the organizing and strategy that rallied community members against the hazardous waste.  A celebration of life for John McLean will be held in Amherst, MA, in September.
