Key Environmental Issues at Stake in Upcoming City of Peoria Elections

January 2017

Riverfront Park
Peoria Riverfront Park - Vote for Peoria City candidates that will keep Riverfront Park as open space.

Candidate Forum January 23rd

Even if you don’t live in the City of Peoria, the upcoming city primary and election are likely to impact you. At stake are the future of open space at the north end of Riverfront Park, action on clean air and sustainability issues, and the fact that Peoria is rated the worst city for Black citizens in the nation.  Incumbent Mayor Jim Ardis wants the sale of Riverfront Park for development. Running for Mayor are Couri Thomas, who has stated publicly that he wants to keep Riverfront Park as open space, and G. Marie Kennell who lists her concerns as a mother and long-time Peoria resident. Several at-large City Council seats are up for election. On Monday, January 23rd Central Illinois Global Warming Solutions group will be hosting a Candidates Forum at the Advanced Medical Transport auditorium, 1718 N Sterling Ave, West Peoria, at 6:30 p.m. This will be a chance to compare the candidates and learn more about their environmental views.
