CAFO Proceeding .58 Miles South of Princeville

CAFO Interior

In the future, people may want to check the wind direction before considering a trip to Princeville. Too bad the prevailing south westerly winds will be blowing over a new hog Confined Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) that will be built too close to town.

Don’t worry: all the Farm Bureau members giving public comments in favor of this said farmers are stewards of the land and that there is no concern about the smell and no need to have any kind of groundwater assessment done before facilities like this are approved. That did not give any comfort to the speaker representing Chippewa Estates subdivision which is not far away and has already had concerns for their well water supply.

The bottom line is major changes must be made to the existing state permit processes regarding CAFOs.  See the Socially Responsible Agricultural Project website for more information about CAFOs.
