Five Adorable Critters Protected by National Parks

All this week people around the U.S. are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. For 100 years, America's national parks have provided opportunities for people to explore nature -- and provided protection for so many animals.

This centennial year, the Sierra Club, together with the Obama administration and others, is working to ensure more people have the chance to get outside and enjoy all that our public lands have to offer. Whether it’s the majestic lands surrounding the Grand Canyon or a neighborhood green space, the wild is where you find it, and we want everyone to be able to experience it.

How about five photos of some of the cutest critters that call our national parks home?

1. The pika! From North Cascades National Park.

2. The pygmy owl! From Olympic National Park.

3. The marmot! From Denali National Park.

4. The manatee and her calf! From Everglades National Park.

5. Bison! Look at these bison calves! From Yellowstone National Park.

BONUS! Of course we can’t just pick five cuties. Here’s another -- a baby harbor seal in San Juan National Historic Park.

What a cute overload! Thanks to our National Park System for helping protect these critters for 100 years -- here’s to many more!

You can help - Take the pledge today to support everyone's right to explore, enjoy, and protect America's public lands.
