Sierra Club Backs Rep. Adler for Re-election Praises Rep. Adler's Efforts to Support Clean Energy Initiatives, Improve Water Quality, and Protect New Jersey Families
Trenton, NJ - Today the Sierra Club endorsed Congressman John Adler for Congress. "The Sierra Club strongly supports Representative Adler for reelection because he strongly supports efforts to protect the environment and families and to create a clean energy econonmy," said Jeff Tittel, Director of the Sierra Club New Jersey Chapter.
"Representative Adler fully supported efforts to increase the use of alternative energies and technologies, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and create millions of new jobs," said Tittel. "The Congressman has shown leadership by working with Democrats, Republicans, and independents to help promote New Jersey initiatives, most recently focusing his efforts on cleaning up and protecting the Barnegat Bay in Ocean County."
Last year, Congressman Adler helped pass the bipartisan American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), the first comprehensive clean energy legislation to pass the House of Representatives. ACES will reduce the United States' global warming emissions by 83 percent by 2050.
Currently, Congressman Adler is working on legislation to clean Barnegat Bay. In addition, he consistently supports efforts to protect the Pine Barrens, New Jersey's waterways, and recently introduced a bill to prohibit smoking in federal buildings.
The Sierra Club is the nation's oldest and largest environmental group with more than 600,000 members, about 20,000 of them here in New Jersey. As Tittel describes it, "The Sierra Club endorsement is the green version of the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval."
