Buono’s Gubernatorial Run Today Senator Barbara Buono announced she is running for Governor.There are other candidates who also have good environmental records as well and we are looking forward to a spirited campaign around environmental issues. We have not made any endorsements yet and look forward to starting our endorsement process early next year when more candidates have announced they are filing.*Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club*, released the following statement in response to Senator Buono’s announcement:

"We are pleased to see that Senator Barbara Buono is running for Governor.With her entering the race, this will make the environment a major issue in the campaign and help raise public awareness on the state of New Jersey’s environment.Senator Buono has alongstanding commitment to the environment and has been a leader on environmental issues throughout herlegislative career. *In 2011 she received the NJ Sierra Club’s Outstanding Achievement Award*. Below is what was said when she received the award."

"Barbara Buono is a true leader when it comes to New Jersey’s environment. She stood up to Governors in her own party showing her efforts to protect New Jersey’s environment. She exposed the Red Tape Review and how it was being used by the Christie Administration to weaken environmental protections. She has also helped to pass dozen of laws making New Jersey’s environment a better place."

"Senator Buono’sleadership and courage in protecting and preserving our natural environment can be seen throughout her career, including the Senator’s efforts to promote clean air and water, preserve open space and cleanup of toxic sites. Senator Buono has also been working diligently to block the implementation of the Waiver Rule through an oversight resolution."
