NJ Sierra Club Applauds NY Fracking Ban! Where's Christie?

Today New York officials announced that the state environmental review of hydraulic fracturing would be released early next year and would prohibit the use of fracking in the state. Jeff Tittel, Director, NJ Sierra Club, released this statement:

"We applaud Gov. Cuomo and New York State for prohibiting fracking in New York State. This is a real victory for the environment and clean water. The decision is based on science and environmental review because fracking could not meet the requirements of the SEQRA process. This is great news for the Delaware River Basin. Now Gov. Cuomo, Gov. Markell, and in-coming Gov. Wolf all oppose drilling in the Basin. We believe this will keep the existing moratorium in place and we can work towards a permanent ban. This is a great holiday gift for the environment!"

"While Gov. Cuomo's administration says fracking could not meet any environmental standard, Gov. Christie continues to block attempts to ban fracking in New Jersey. He vetoed a fracking ban bill and has now twice vetoed a fracking waste ban bill. New York state believes that pollution from fracking cannot be properly dealt with and would put residents at risk, while Gov. Christie continues to allow radioactive, toxic fracking waste to come into New Jersey. Gov. Christie has raised a lot of money from the fracking industry and He is more concerned about frackers and his political agenda than New Jersey's waterways."
