Building an environmental majority
The Sierra Club is poised to help shape the new Congress's energy and environmental agenda, and impact legislation in state houses across the country. But we need to work to ensure we retain and build upon our environmental support in the House, Senate and State Houses across the country.

In the 2008 cycle, the Sierra Club Political Committee will endorse candidates; run campaigns to educate voters about the issues, and help re-elect environmental incumbents and to elect new environmental champions up and down the ticket.

Role of energy in elections
Americans voted for change and new leadership that will move our nation in a dramatically different direction. During the election, energy surfaced as a defining issue and a deciding factor that helped fuel the demand for change. While it was clear that Iraq was the issue uppermost in voters' minds, energy issues clearly played a pivotal role in 2006.

Presidential Primary Project
The 2008 presidential primaries provide a national platform to engage and shape the public debate on clean energy and global warming. The caucuses and early primaries allow direct citizen input to demand action, and the focus and megaphone of the national media allow individual actions to gain national attention. We can effectively raise the public debate to ensure leadership on this critical issue.
