The Huron Valley Group is part of the Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club, which includes all of Michigan. The Huron Valley Group itself includes most of the Huron River watershed, including Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Monroe counties.

Join the HVG Executive Committee!

Be a changemaker! The HVG Executive Committee (the ExCom) is looking for passionate environmentalists who want to help lead the group forward. Want to help organize presentations on environmental issues? Support our outings program? Engage in political advocacy for the environment? Help recruit new activists and guide them? Then the ExCom could use you! We are looking for candidates to run for 2-year terms beginning in January, 2027. The commitment is roughly 10-12 hours per month. If you decide to run, please email Nominating Committee Chair Erica Ackerman (hvgsierraclub@gmail.com) by October 9, 2026. To finalize the nomination, you will need to submit an email with your full name, phone number, member number, and a 500-word statement on why you wish to run for the ExCom.

HVG Program Meetings

NEW: HVG program meetings will be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Downtown Ann Arbor Public Library.Our program meetings offer a range of valuable, thought-provoking information on natural and environmental topics. Example meetings have covered:

The proliferation of data centers in Michigan
The invasive plant lesser celandine, a major new threat to our local ecosystem
A beautiful, informative presentation on native pollinators.

Grand Island

Sierra Club founder John Muir took people to the mountains in 1901 because he knew that would convince them to save valuable wild places. We still “explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth,” through thousands of local, national, and international outings every year, activities that have helped shape wild areas conservation across the country.

Our outings are open to members and non-members. No fees are charged, except for expenses like park entry costs, camping fees or shared meals. Participants are required to sign a standard liability waiver. Sierra Club volunteers lead our outings. You will learn about local conservation efforts while enjoying the great outdoors.
