Phoenix, AZ – Today, Governor Katie Hobbs signed House Bill 2679, a bill that was promoted by the State’s largest monopoly electric utilities to allow them to bond for debt on coal plants, and to sell, rather than retire the plants, keeping them operating, and polluting our air and water and harming our health.
HB2679 falls far short of what is needed to protect utility ratepayers and is overly broad as it grants sweeping new authority to utilities with no assurance of sufficient oversight or public policy review being conducted by the Arizona Corporation Commission or by the Salt River Project Board...
