Mothers Out Front: A Dangerous Time for New York's Environment

Mothers Out Front with other groups and elected officials held a press conference in Tarrytown on March 13, 2026 to call on Governor Hochul to protect our environmental laws.

This is a very dangerous time for New York’s environment.

The Trump administration has severely undermined foundational laws that protect clean air and water and has stopped our efforts to fight climate change by blocking clean energy projects and deregulating carbon emissions.

Instead of standing strong, Governor Hochul has aligned herself with Trump’s policies:

  • She has approved once dead fracked gas pipelines New Yorkers do not need and cannot afford.
  • She is issuing permits to dirty cryptocurrency mines once deemed in violation of our Climate Law.
  • She is suspending other laws that would advance emissions free buildings./li>
  • She is proposing to gut the State Environmental Review Act (SEQRA) by exempting most housing and other development projects from necessary environmental review.
  • When you look at her budget it is clear that these giveaways to big polluters are just the start. She is proposing costly, inefficient nuclear reactors that would derail our climate goals for renewable energy.

New York State Senator Peter Harckham and Assembly Member Dana Levenberg have been staunch supporters of CLCPA. They are working in Albany on the legislative budget that would stop some of the worst of Hochul’s proposals. If they are your representatives, thank them.  If they are not your representatives, call whoever represents you and ask them to support New York's environmental laws.

We must DEMAND that the Legislature holds firm! Inform your legislators about your opinion and insist that they protect the greenest and best environmental laws for New York!

Here is the phone number for Governor Hochul.  Call her now and then put it in your contacts.  This will not be your last call! - 1-518-474-8390.
