Do you love the outdoors? Outings can be hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, walking, bird watching, rock climbing or other activities that get people outdoors. We sponsor and participate in numerous environmental-related activities including films, meetings, and events. Check out our calendar to see what's happening in Delaware. To become a certified outings leader all you need to do is complete an easy training and be basic first aid certified. If you are interested in leading an outing, contact Marissa McClenton.

Big M.T: Hike Up Mt. Tammany
Sun, Aug 16, 2026; 9:30 AM
Location: Mt. Tammany Red Dot Trailhead: XVCG+PQ Hardwick Township, NJ, USA
On Sunday, August 19th, take a drive to New Jersey and meet us between 9:30- 10am for a hike to the most gorgeous view in the area, the rigorous Mt. Tammany! Boasting an elevation of 1217 Feet, the red dot/ blue dot train will test your endurance as the Hike begins with scrambling up the semi steep mountainside all the way up until we reach the beast part of our excursion, the Mt. Tammany Lookout! A rocky cliff face that lets onto the most beautiful view of the Delaware Water Gap that separates PA and NJ! This 3.7 mile trail is labeled as hard, but that's only before the lookout, as when we descend down the trail becomes more of an even stroll. A challenging scramble to a phenomenal view and an easy stroll to finish. Don't miss out! Register Now! Parking fills up fast on warm weekends, so we recommend carpooling and arriving as early as possible to secure your spot!

Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) Field Trip
Wed, Sep 23, 2026; 3:00 PM
Location: Delaware Recycling Center: 1101 Lambson Ln, New Castle, DE 19720, USA
We’ll meet at the DSWA recycling plant in Wilmington and have a tour of the facility and question and answer session. We'll learn about recycling efforts with plastic, paper, electronics, etc.
Attendees should wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and long pants and will be asked to wear personal protective equipment that will be provided: safety glasses, helmets, and vests. Anyone with a pacemaker may not take the plant tour, but can see the equally informative video instead.
The facility will be loud and dusty and will involve heights and climbing stairs. Tours will be rescheduled if the daily temperature exceeds 90 F. There is no guarantee that the facility will be operating at the time of the tour.

Data center threatens Delaware. We’re fighting back!
We want to call special attention to our fight against the mega data center proposed for Delaware City, which would harm its vulnerable neighbors, impact crucial wetlands, and cause electricity bills to skyrocket for Delaware families.
You can learn more about the data center here and take action here.
Would you like to get even more involved? We are currently organizing canvassing sessions in the most impacted communities directly across from the proposed data center. Anybody interested in canvassing should contact Marissa at marissa.mcclenton@sierraclub.org.
