Data is scarce but a 2021 study published in the journal Lancet Planet Health found that 36% of teens and young adults were hesitant to have children due to climate change.

Sierra Club IL Communications Coordinator Hannah Flath wants everyday people to be able to have children, if that's what they want, without overwhelming climate guilt. “[We hear] these messages about individuals and their impact on the planet, and I want the companies that are responsible for the majority of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions to be the ones to feel guilty," she said.
