Illinois Sierra Club is working to rapidly decarbonize Chicago's energy procurement. We were a leader in the Ready for 100 Chicago Collective which worked to secure the Chicago commitment to an equitable 100% clean energy future in 2019.
On April 10, 2019 Chicago City Council unanimously passed R2019-157 -- establishing the goal of transitioning the entire city to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2025 and electrifying the city’s bus fleet by 2040.
In August 2022, Chicago announced that they would transition to 100% to Renewable Energy.
