Dirty Development

Why we work on it

Dirty development threatens our water supply and infrastructure. New construction projects can destroy wetlands, streams, and ecosystems. Polluting industries along our waterways, dredging activities, road building can disrupt our precious water resources and degrade our drinking water supply.

What we're working on

Line 5 - Line 5 is a crude oil transport pipeline that runs through the Great Lakes on its way to Canada. If it ruptured, it would be devastating for the millions of people who live along the Great Lakes. We're working to get the pipeline's shutdown order enforced.

Confined Disposal Facility - The Confined Disposal Facility (CDF) on the South East Side is a dumping ground for toxic dredge sediment that the Chicago Park District promised would turn into a park. We're fighting to turn this facility into a park and get the toxic waste further away from Lake Michigan.

Sustainable green infrastructure - Just as important as stopping dirty infrastructure, we need to build sustainable green infrastructure. We're working with municipalities to advocate for sustainable drinking water infrastructure, address urban flooding, and build a clean water future.

Who we work with

We work with environmental justice communities, other environmental groups, the general public, and municipalities across the state to keep our water clean.
