March 24: Shawnee National Forest: Past, Present and Future

Shawnee National Forest, a magnificent 294,000-acre forest in Southern Illinois, is home to beautiful oak-hickory forests, thriving wetlands, canyons, razorback ridges and unique geological features. A convergence of six natural ecological regions, nestled between the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, Shawnee offers an extraordinary diversity of plant and animal species.

John Marshall and Karen Frailey will join us on March 24 to share their experiences in the Shawnee National Forest and photos of its historical, biological and geological treasures. In addition, they will touch on future opportunities, including potential climate reservoirs.

The presentation on Shawnee National Forest is another in a series of family-friendly nature and environmental stewardship talks sponsored by the Woods & Wetlands Group.

Programs are held at 7 p.m. on the second or third Sunday of each month. They are free and open to the public. Advance registration is required for login instructions.
