Our favorite local trails
Here are just a few of the trails that showcase the diverse and wonderful natural places of Lake County and northern Cook County:
- The Des Plaines River Trail. Picturesque trails that wind through Lake County for 31 miles.
- Volo Bog State Natural Area. Interpretive trail through Illinois' only remaining open-water quaking bog, plus two hiking trails that meander through woods, wetlands, fields and prairie restoration areas.
- Illinois Beach State Park. Trails that wind along the shores of Lake Michigan, grassy sand dunes, wetlands, open prairies and diverse woodlands.
