Lobbying

Speaking up and shouting out

For more than 100 years, Sierra Club members have participated actively in the legislative process to preserve and protect our air, water, and open spaces. Lobbying lawmakers to make sure they hear our concerns is one of the most important things we do.

Today, members of the Woods & Wetlands Group embody our "protect the planet" principles by working to influence policy on local environmental issues as well as broader issues that are priorities for the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter.

Our Lobby Committee coordinates meetings between members, or citizen lobbyists, and lawmakers representing Lake County and northern Cook County in Illinois. Citizen lobbyists call lawmakers about priority bills. They also participate in the annual Environmental Lobby Day in Springfield.

As a Sierra Club volunteer, you are welcome to become a citizen lobbyist. You will receive lobby training and issues briefings, including facts sheets and talking points, from the Chapter.
