Meetings and events give you opportunities to get acquainted with other Sierra Club members, explore ideas, and support efforts to protect the natural resources of the northeast corner of Illinois.
Committee and program meetings
Committee meetings focus on conservation, advocacy, and political action, as well as planning outings and activities for members.
Program meetings explore environmental issues of local concern. Recent guest speakers have discussed residential solar panels, bees and bugs (complete with macro photographs), oil pipelines in Illinois, urban forests, and more.
Committee and program meetings are open to all Sierra Club members.
Fundraisers and tabling events
Fundraisers underwrite special campaign and program initiatives. Recent fundraisers have supported a water monitoring study for the Manitou Creek Clean Water Alliance campaign and grants for participants in the Verena Owen Environmental Fellows youth program.
The Woods & Wetlands Group tables at various community events to help build our advocacy base. Recent tabling events have included the One Earth Film Festival (multiple Lake County locations), Green Living Fair (Libertyville), Dandelion Wine Fine Arts Festival (Waukegan), and Drive Electric Week (Highland Park).
The Woods & Wetlands Group also stands in solidarity with allied environmental and social justice organizations in events that engage public officials and the general public. Our members have participated in Environmental Lobby Day (Springfield), People's Climate Movement Marches (Chicago and other cities), the Women's March (Chicago and other cities), the EmpoweRun/Walk for A Safe Place (Libertyville), and more.
