August In-Person Presentation by Cydney Ross of Deep Roots
Date: Tues., August 25 Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Location: Minsky’s South Plaza, 5105 Main, KCMO
Come and hang out with like-minded people who care about conservation and the planet, in a convivial setting!
Our August speaker will be Cydney Ross of Deep Roots, an organization that works “with multi-sector partners to increase native plant landscapes.”
According to Cydney, “It is arguably every gardener’s dream to have plants in bloom from spring through fall in their native gardens. Cydney Ross of Deep Roots will share her knowledge and expertise on how to keep the native wildflower blooms popping through the growing season. We’ll also discuss faunal connections and maintenance strategies for a successful native garden.”
We look forward to sharing food and drinks and learning more!
We will pre-order pizza, so please be sure to register so we can have an accurate head count. Drinks are on your own! We will pass the hat to pay for the pizza.
Thanks to Taylor Neff of Missouri Department of Conservation for presenting our July program!

Team Monarch (Conservation Committee) Update
By Jennifer Helber, Conservation Chair
We had a good day at Burr Oak Woods on July 18th, with our "Missouri Monarch Mission" program. Children enjoyed facepainting and coloring in the morning, several joined Mike Stoakes (Burroughs Audubon) for a bird walk, and the speakers' program was attended in the auditorium following a picnic lunch.
We concluded with the idea of "Adopt-a-Monarch" with an art auction mid-August; details upcoming. Let us know if you have a venue for this event!
We'll need a couple of volunteers to help weed the pollinator garden at Wendell Phillips Elementary before school starts, Aug. 24th. If you are able to help, please contact jthelber@hotmail.com
Please donate to the Thomas Hart Benton Group—Thanks!
You can probably tell from recent Newsletters that we are getting a lot more active in 2026. We welcome all the new friends and allies we have been meeting and speaking with at our recent in-person meetings. We also welcome any donations you can spare to help with all our new activities…thanks so much! Every little bit helps!
