Allegheny Group, Pennsylvania Chapter

The Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club is a volunteer led group – our members are what make the work we do possible. We are one of nine regional groups across the state that help the people of Pennsylvania explore, enjoy, and protect our state's many environmental resources and fight for safe and livable communities.

Councilwoman Anita Prizio who is setting up a series of public briefing sessions sponsored by the Council’s Sustainability and Green Initiatives Committee. The briefings will address the impact of abandoned wells and mines in the County. She encourages you and members of your organization to attend these briefings remotely or in person.

The first briefing on Thursday, March 31 at 4 PM will discuss the number and location of abandoned oil and gas wells in Allegheny County, their health and environmental impacts, and the availability of funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to address these issues. Speakers will include:

  • Anita Prizio, member of County Council representing District 3 and chair of the Sustainability and Green Initiatives Committee.
  • Kurt Klapkowski, Director, Bureau of Oil and Gas Planning and Program Management at Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Ted Boettner, Senior Researcher, Ohio River Valley Institute 
  • Kelsey Krepps, Senior Campaign Representative with the Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign at the Sierra Club.
