What’s Involved

Volunteers are welcome to join any ICO outing. We have a couple of fundraiser each year and can use your assistance in these activities. Assistance is always needed and appreciated!

Volunteers can accompany the hikes, interacting with the kids and supporting the leader. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to help out and have fun!

Getting Started

To get started, simply click here and fill out the form. Volunteer Coordinator, Alice Thornton, 865-719-9741 will get in touch with you. If you want to go on outings please provide an e-mail so that the Sierra Club’s background check (similar to one for employment) can be initiated. Once you have decided which outing to attend, contact the leader to express your interest and arrange when and where to meet.

Current Hike Scheduling

For safety reasons, the schedule of hikes is posted only in our monthly bulletins and electronic calendar (password protected). These contain a schedule of current outings with contact information for leaders. Once you contact our Volunteer Coordinator we can provide you with more information.

Please download these files:

The name, phone number, and e-mail address of new volunteers will be posted in the next issue of the ICO Bulletin so leaders will be encouraged to contact them for inclusion and support on their outings. However, volunteers are encouraged to take the initiative in contacting leaders.

You may continue as a volunteer indefinitely. However, we hope you will enjoy what we are doing, come to meetings, and become an Outings leader yourself. Jump to the Information for Leaders page!

Knoxville Inspiring Connections Outdoors is a community outreach program that provides opportunities for urban youth and adults to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world.
