Farewell To Jennifer Walker, Our Water Resources Programs Manager!

Today is our co-worker, friend and Texas Water Extraordinaire Jennifer Walker's last day.

Jennifer Farewell

It's a bittersweet transition. We'll miss her dearly around the office, but we are so excited for her new opportunity at the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). We're also lucky we'll still be working in collaboration with her and physically near as well - NWF's Austin office is just across the street from us!

Here's a blurb of Jennifer reflecting on her almost two decades with the Lone Star Chapter:

To my Sierra Club Friends and Family,

Eighteen years ago, I began working at the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club. I was fresh out of college with a degree in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology and I was (and still am) ready to work hard on behalf of the people and critters of Texas.

I have had the opportunity to do that and so much more. The people, passion, support and dedication at Sierra Club is inspiring and the time has really gone by quickly. That makes sense though, we have all been super busy taking care of business. There is certainly no shortage of environmental issues to tackle in Texas.

With my focus on water, my work has consisted of analyzing water supply and how we plan for and manage it in Texas, water conservation, bay and estuary protection, and preserving and protecting fish and wildlife habitat. Throw in sustainable groundwater management, springflow protection, endangered species issues, habitat protection, riparian restoration, water rights permits, so many stakeholder processes and much more and time just flies. Phew.

After 18 years, I am changing things up a bit. I will still be knee deep in all things concerning Texas water, but I will be joining the team at National Wildlife Federation, where I will be the Senior Program Manager for Water Programs.

Stay in touch! You can contact me via e-mail at walkerj@nwf.org.

I am honored to have worked on behalf of this great organization for the past 18 years. Thank you for the opportunity. We have made tons of progress but there is much more work to be done and room for everyone to play a role. Let’s have fun while we are doing it.
