Saturday Walk in the Park

Tolbert and Diane's "Walk in the Park" has been moved to be held on April 4, 2026, at the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve.

355 East Bob Jones Road
Southlake

For our April Saturday, let’s get back to exploring the walks in Amy Martin’s book WILD DFW and venture up to northeast Tarrant County to the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve.  The park is about a 30- to 40-minute drive from most of Fort Worth.  There are 3 miles of easy trails in this nearly 700-acre park, as well as longer trails along the shore of Grapevine Lake.  There are portable toilets.  They do prohibit dogs on the trails, so please leave pets at home.

As usual, let’s meet at 9 AM at the headquarters building and plan on beginning the walk at 9:15 AM. We will walk 2 or 3 miles and take about 2 or so hours. Some spring migrating birds may be passing through so bring your binoculars.   I have visited this park in the past and believe you will find it a good place to include on your outings in the future.

Please let me know if you plan on joining us so I can contact you with any last minute changes.

Be sure to bring some water, dress appropriately and bring sun block if the day is sunny.  Feel free to walk at your own pace or with us.  Just enjoy being out with other people who share your love for the outdoors.

Please email Tolbert Greenwood at tolbertgreenwood@gmail.com if you will be joining us.

This is not a Sierra Club sponsored Outing; this is Tolbert & Diane's outreach to others to get together and explore one of DFW’s great parks/green spaces.

Environmental and Nature Book Club

book pages

Below is detail for our next Book Club meeting.

Join us on Monday April 13, 2026, at 6:30 PM for our Environmental & Book Club where we will discuss   "What We Can Know" by Ian McEwan.

From Good Reads -

2014: A great poem is read aloud and never heard again. For generations, people speculate about its message, but no copy has yet been found.

2119: The lowlands of the UK have been submerged by rising seas. Those who survive are haunted by the richness of the world that has been lost.

Tom Metcalfe, a scholar at the University of the South Downs, part of Britain's remaining archipelagos, pores over the archives of the early twenty-first century, captivated by the freedoms and possibilities of human life at its zenith. When he stumbles across a clue that may lead to the great lost poem, revelations of entangled love and a brutal crime emerge, destroying his assumptions about a story he thought he knew intimately.

What We Can Know is a masterpiece that reclaims the present from our sense of looming catastrophe and imagines a future world where all is not quite lost.

We always have great discussions, and all are invited whether you have read the book or not.
The meetings are held at:

Fielder Museum
1616 W Abrams, Arlington
Arlington, TX
