Protecting Our Water

We're back in court fighting CAFO permits which threaten water quality in rural Kansas.

Fifty years after passage of the Clean Water Act, Kansas water is still heavily impaired because of industrial meat production.  We just filed our third lawsuit to compel enforcement of the mandatory separation distances between industrial hog farms, waterways, and neighboring homes.  Big Ag uses more than 85 percent of our water for irrigation, pumping water to grow grain to feed animals. Wastes from animal factories pollute our groundwater, streams, rivers and lakes, contaminate our drinking water sources, and restrict access for recreation.

Advocating for Kansas Energy Consumers

The Kansas Chapter and Beyond Coal Campaign Sierra Club co-sponsored an appeal of the KCC order denying a petition by Sierra Club and Vote Solar to reconsider a decision on this Evergy demand response docket.  The case is about giving Kansas consumers the right to earn financial incentives by controlling their electric power usage at times of peak demand. A victory will also help stabilize our power grid.
