Team Sierra Raises $175K During Earth Month

For the fifth year, Team Sierra, the Sierra Club’s community fundraising program, hosted an Earth Month fundraiser during the month of April. Our community raised over $175,000, making it our best year yet!

Earth Month is when Team Sierra holds its biggest fundraiser. This year, 8,463 people joined our virtual events, created fundraisers, sent an Earth Day e-card, donated in honor of a loved one, or got outdoors on April 22, Earth Day. Here’s a quick glimpse of how Team Sierra members celebrated across the country:

Virtual Activities:

On April 1, we kicked off Earth Month with a fermentation class hosted by zero-waste chef Anne-Marie Bonneau

Throughout the month, we collaborated with incredible creators and activists to host drawing and yoga classes, as well as discussions on tackling the climate crisis and becoming an outdoor activist.

You can see a full list of activities and watch the recordings here.

Team Sierra supporters also got outside to explore, enjoy, and protect our planet.

Sandra enjoyed beautiful Sedona with her family, all decked out in Earth Day gear.

On a beautiful Connecticut day, Pam set up a table with Earth Day literature and snacks at the entrance to a popular hiking spot.

Magda and Kiba enjoyed a colorful walk in their neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Our partners helped to spread the word and contributed their time and funds to support our mission! Marine Layer created an official t-shirt made out of recycled materials, and their employees logged 552 miles on Earth Day. (T-shirts are now on sale for $21 in limited sizes. Check availability.) Swedish outdoor brand Houdini Sportswear supported our fundraising efforts by donating fleeces. AllTrails helped get people out on local trails and donated Lifetime Pro Memberships to the top 10 Team Sierra fundraisers. The Bend Marathon donated 15 slots in their virtual 5 and 10K, and Team Sierra supporters raised over $3,000

We’re in a climate crisis. We must keep global temperature increases (from pre-industrial levels) under 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit)  in order to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, including extreme weather to food scarcity.

The money raised by Team Sierra funds Sierra Club’s campaigns to retire coal plants, move away from fossil fuels, and transition to clean energy, like solar and wind, in an equitable and just way.

We are so grateful for all of our supporters. Thank you for your time, your efforts, and your contributions to helping create a liveable planet for all.
