This Earth Day, We’re Mobilizing

When I look around my city, our country, and our world, the injustice and hardship can be overwhelming. It can feel hard to know how each of us can make a difference. But our struggles are connected -- and when we each take up the mantle and hold our piece of the puzzle, together we can help turn the tide of history.

Our government officials must do the same. But they won't get there unless we push them to. Only with our collective power can we pressure our elected leaders for systemic change and a society that works for all.

The next few months will be a critical window to push President Biden and Congress to pass bold climate, care, jobs, and justice legislation and executive actions before the midterm campaign season consumes all attention. That’s why this Earth Day, we’re calling for a nationwide mobilization to turn up the heat. Together with partners across the broader progressive movement like the Green New Deal Network, SEIU, Sunrise Movement, and many others, we will rally in the streets in cities and towns across the country. We will once again call on our government leaders to invest in us for the solutions we know are possible and necessary.

Will you help make this Earth Day the turning point we need? Join the Community call on Wednesday, March 23 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT to learn more about the strategy and how you can get involved! Can't make it? RSVP anyway and we'll send you the recording.

No matter who you are or where you call home, we all deserve to breathe fresh air, drink clean water, and live and work in a clean economy and a healthy community.

Our economy’s reliance on fossil fuels leaves us vulnerable to dangerous autocrats abroad and greedy fossil fuel executives and spikes in gas prices at home -- and climate chaos that is worsening every year.

Systemic racism and economic injustices leave families struggling to put food on the table, while an elite few are making enormous profits.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. The crises we face were created by people, and they can be solved by people. This year -- this Spring -- is the time for our government to go bolder. It’s time to Invest In Us.

Investments in our future in line with the vision of Build Back Better and the Green New Deal are what we need. Specifically, we're looking for:

  • Bold and historic climate and social legislation from Congress. Despite the Democrats’ narrow majority, there's a path forward to pass unprecedented investments in clean energy to move our country swiftly off polluting, harmful, and climate-crisis fueling fossil fuels, while creating millions of good-paying jobs, lowering costs for families, and tackling economic and racial injustice by directly benefiting historically neglected communities.

  • Continued action by the Biden administration to deploy stronger standards to cut pollution from heavy-duty trucks, cleaning up toxic mercury and other air pollution from the power sector, new methane standards for new and existing oil and gas operations, and so much more. They've begun on many of these and we need to see them through.

This Earth Day, the Sierra Club -- alongside our partners in the broader movement -- will be rallying in the streets in cities and towns across the country. It’s time to make sure our leaders know we are calling on them to deliver bold systems-level change, and to deliver it now.

Last week, hundreds of you -- Sierra Club members and supporters -- told us in a survey that you are ready to attend or host an Earth Day event, level up your organizing skills, and get involved locally. Well, we have plans for all of that!

RSVP to our March 23 community call to learn how you can join us this spring and mobilize with your communities on Earth Day.
