We don't get enough good news these days. Yet in June, we had three major victories for protecting our public lands.
🛢️ Victory #1: We pressured Big Oil not to bid on the Arctic Refuge. The Trump administration tried to lease 1.5 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for drilling. Years of public pressure turned this into a deal no major oil and gas corporation wanted to touch.
🏞️ Victory #2: We protected the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Utah lawmakers tried to use the Congressional Review Act to gut the monument's plan and the protections it provides. It was the first attempt of its kind anywhere in the country. After thousands of calls, emails, social posts, and in person actions, the clock ran out and their fast-track plan failed.
⚖️ Victory #3: We stopped the erasure of park history. A federal judge blocked the Trump administration's effort to erase history from our national parks by stripping signage and exhibits. The court ordered the removed material put back. The judge directly cited the scale of public opposition -- which included over thirty thousand comments from advocates like you -- in her ruling.
Corporate polluters have spent decades and billions of dollars working to make us believe that everyday people don't stand a chance against their money and influence. But we're proving that's not true. These victories happened because regular people—outdoor enthusiasts, Tribal nations, scientists, business owners, faith leaders, and advocates like you—refused to be quiet.
And we need your support to keep up the momentum!
Right now, the administration wants to fast-track oil and gas permitting in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, the largest single block of public land in the U.S. If this works, it could become a model for opening up public lands in the rest of the country.
Our public lands belong to us, not polluting corporations and the politicians in their pockets. Act now to demand Alaskan lands remain protected.
Your continued advocacy makes all of this possible. Thank you!
