Executive Committee 2026 Annual Election

We are writing to inform you of an opportunity to become more active in the Sierra Club's Central-Northern New York (CNNY) Group. Our territory includes much of central NY State, from Cortland to the St. Lawrence River, and east-west from about Canajoharie to Geneva. We have about 2400 members in our region.

Call for Nominations: We are looking to nominate candidates willing to be on the Group's Executive Committee (ExCom), which consists of eleven members. ExCom members serve two-year terms, and new terms begin in January 2027. We hold monthly online meetings.  If you have a passion for protecting our beautiful planet, and would like to get more involved in the Sierra Club mission, we invite you to contact the Nominating Committee, through the online contact us form or by mail at the address below. Please include your name, address, and a very brief statement about your background and interests related to the mission of the Sierra Club. Candidates must be CNNY Group members. A member of the Nominating Committee will get back to you with details about the process. We need to hear from you by July 1 at the latest; we'd prefer that you contact us earlier if possible. The Nominating Committee and Executive Committee will make a final decision on all nominations by July 17th.

Nominees will be on the ballot for the election held in December. If you are not nominated by the Nominating Committee, there is a petition process that requires signatures of 15 active Sierra Club members. The deadline for submitting petitions and statements to the Nominating Committee is August 17, 2026.

How to vote in the end-of-year Group Executive Committee election:
Online voting is available using My Account on the CNNY Group’s site. If you have not used My Account before, please follow the online instructions for creating an account.

If you prefer to vote by mail, please request a paper ballot by submitting a request via the Contact us form  or by sending a postcard/letter that includes your name and contact information to the following address. Someone from the CNNY Group will follow up with print ballot voting information.

  • June 15: Suggested date by which to notify the CNNY Nominating Committee regarding interest.
  • July 1: Deadline for notifying the Nominating Committee of your interest in running for the Group Executive Committee. Include your contact information and a brief statement.
  • August 17: Deadline for receipt of petitions and statements by ExCom candidates not nominated by the Nominating Committee
  • September 8: Deadline for final ballot statements for all candidates
  • December 15: Deadline for postmark of returned print ballots, as well as online
  • January 5, 2027: Deadline for counting online and print ballots. Following this, Chapter Election Committee announces results.
