Governor Hochul does NOT deserve congratulations

The bad news from New York State, in regard to it continuing to shirk its CLCPA climate law, keeps coming and is turning into a torrent.

Governor Hochul does NOT deserve congratulations for being on Time's 100 Climate Leaders list, because she does NOT deserve to be on that list. (see recent actions counter to climate law below)

1) Delayed implementation of NYC Congestion Pricing
2) Attempted to change time frame for greenhouse gas accounting to 100 years, against CAC recommendation
3) Omitted NY HEAT Act from budget proposal
4) Delayed implementing Cap & Invest, lost lawsuit on this and is now working to appeal the court decision to continue delaying implementation
5) DEC approved boost of pressure/flow in Iroquois Gas Pipeline Expansion by Compression (ExC) project.
6) Still pushing for new nuclear power, despite it being too expensive, too toxic, too risky, and too slow to build, in order to be a climate solution. It is a distraction & waste of money.
7) PSC ended PPTN process for building transmission line on Long Island to carry offshore wind power to NYC
8 ) PSC denied NYPA request to designate Clean Path NY transmission line a Priority Transmission Project, effectively ending hopes to get it built & operational in 2029.
9) NYS Draft Energy Plan is way too weak and largely assumes business as usual incremental approach, despite that trend of adding renewable generation will NOT reach 70% renewable electricity generation mandated 2030 CLCPA target until END OF THE CENTURY! See trend in graph on page 51 of NYISO 2024 Power Trends Report
10) PSC approved National Grid's long-term gas plan that was based on incorrect, outdated information, which was used to justify needing more gas for NYC area.
11) 11/7/25 DEC approved water quality permit for NESE pipeline, despite it being rejected 3 times in past.
12) 11/7/25 DEC did about face and gave operating permit to Greenidge gas-fired power plant on Seneca Lake, despite fighting legal battle for more than 3 years to shut it down because they were operating without a valid permit and it was in violation of CLCPA.
13) 11/12/25 Hochul delays implementation of All Electric Buildings Act.
14) Slashed funding of Empower+ program.

We at the Susquehanna Group of the Sierra Club are very concerned with the path this governor's administration is taking with regard to our climate. We want New York State to follow the CLCPA climate law
