Susquehanna Group River Cleanup

River cleanup team

Thanks to all who participated (14) in the cleanup by Susquehanna Group Sierra Club October 18th. Although we didn't get quite down to the riverbank (got close in a few cases), we picked up a large amount of trash, much of it could have eventually gotten into the river. There were 12 bags of trash collected as well as a busted up a/c, Scott estimated about 300 pounds, it made a huge difference and the walk along the flood wall is pretty cleaned up now. Thanks to Christina for picking up the bags further down the flood wall and bringing them to the collection site. We checked back later in the morning and all the bags had been picked up, by the city I presume.

There was a homeless camp along the walk that we left intact. The inhabitant was in rough shape, but there was another guy who seemed to bring things in to him. There was another larger encampment on the side of the bridge that Kathy and Karen worked on as well as a spot with a large overfilled garbage can that looked like it was occupied.

The Confluence Park side of the river had issues too. Sarah and Mark picked up what they could (outside the park), there was still a pile along the riverwalk, there was too much to collect.
